Earlier this year, No Pool’s Ben Hasic was contracted by ABC’s Good Game to shoot two Magic: The Gathering events as part of a case study segment on the world of Professional Magic: The Gathering. Â
This year, Sydney was host to two global Magic events: The Grand Prix and the Pro Tour, held at Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush.
Grand Prix are the biggest open Magic events run around the world. Â These exciting three-day festivals of all that is Magic feature a two-day main event with thousands of dollars in cash prizes. Â The format for this Pro Tour was Standard Constructed and Eldritch Moon/Shadows over Innistrad Booster Draft.
With $250,000 in prize money up for grabs, along with seats in the 2016 World Championship, players brought their A-game as they found the best Standard decks and Limited strategies to come out on top. Â The event was also broadcasted live online via Twitch.
We followed Good Game: Well Played host, Rad, as she headed to the âMagic: The Gathering Pro Tourâ and showed us the magic behind the original gangster of trading card games.
With Director & Producer, Tobias Venus, we interviewed international Magic players and superstars and learnt about what life was like for competitors on the Pro Tour.
The segment, which aired on Tuesday 30th August, 2016, was shot by No Pool’s Ben Hasic on Good Game’s Canon Cinema EOS C300 with Ben Hasic’s Samyang VDSLR T1.5 lenses, with additional material shot by Director & Producer, Tobias Venus, on his Canon EOS 7D MkII.
